There is hope for the distressed poet. The poem “Look Ten Years” was pretty dark initially (really dark). Some time later, with a few edits, it manifested much more hope.

Look Ten Years

Look ten years beyond this place
do I exist to share that space
or did I bend to consequence?
one of us may not be here
though the reasons are not clear
I'll offer insight if I can

revelation will conspire
by the nature of the desire
to undo the ties that bind
too many numbers come to mind
one foot square or six feet down
each an end most would condemn

a voice inside whispers doubt
insisting that the answer rests
in easy exit to salve the grief
cutting short the epiphany
that life is too profound
for the journey is the fun

realization springs to mind
on the heels of these thoughts
dubious deal from the beyond
put aside, day at a time
persistence grasped to realize
sharing space with friends I love.

2018.
“Amber’s Depths” is about about voluntarily not embracing the future. The present and near future is the breadth of experience. Beyond that, who knows?

Amber’s Depths

Beyond the bottom of the sky
where horizon meets the land
there I seek my future place
where I’ll stand by vision’s light
though the shadow may intrude
deepest hues in sable’s grasp
hiding what could be there
beyond my sight in mountain’s roots.

Imagination does not reveal
what may come in due time
when the dreams of the beyond
are dispersed by sorrow’s blight
fantasy may be my end
when reality is dismissed
thoughts stop before they start
illusion borne by raven’s wings.

Invention waits in the tools
hinting at their readiness
there left fallow by my hands
dust assumed on mantle’s breadth
treasure stacks upon self
taunting those who cannot reach
when the will is left to wane
wishes sunk in amber’s depths.

© 2017.
The poem “Future Bright” is dedicated to my young friends that have such incredible potential.

Future Bright

Future promise witnessed now
outcome shrouded beyond my gaze
hints of greatness tease my mind
I’ll state the ways you impress.

Beauty plain on youth's face
glimpses of what lays beyond
yet to blossom in readiness
for the ones that wait ahead.

Humor walks the cutting edge
the blood drawn is white on red
celebrating the wit that smarts
kind to laugh, sharp to slice.

Intelligence with room to grow
challenges will come and go
to each you'll find mastery
blessed with a mind most keen.

Your creativity is the cream
muse's favorite as well as mine
mixing of the former praise
greatest promise of future bright.

© 2016, Sean Green.
