Poem - In the Bloom

The poem “In the Bloom” was written for a contest with the subject of “Spring”.

In the Bloom

The gods are with us in the bloom
as the earth unwinds from sleep
I'll speak of two, can you guess
whom I refer in these lines?

the door to depths opens forth
a beauty steps onto the earth
no longer dwelling at Hade's side
in view of men she'll now reside

the small seeds were her downfall
now they're blessed to bloom the earth
the fallow field is borne again
as are the beast and man the same

she's not alone in her reign
a man of the woods is seen to play
asking all to join the hunt
be it for meat or pleasure's way

the empty spaces must be filled
a flute may sound to stir the will
embrace the stalks that sprout to hand
finding succor where life was bare

Spring's guides are here finally
as dark of winter is put to rest
the wheel has turned at long last
do you know the gods I've written bout?

© 2017.
Poem - Live Again

The first line of “Live Again” took inspiration from the first line of T.S. Eliot’s, “The Burial of the Dead”. Some people are cruelly inflicted by seasonal affective disorder (SAD) during the winter months. Other people revel in the relative gloom. I’m in the latter camp.

Live Again

April is the cruelest month
harbinger of the newborne land
with the hand of sun above
seasons turn against my will

March cracked the door, now all’s lost
the cold rains and the snow
are no more to chill my soul
given over to warmth’s embrace

relentless nursemaid of rebirth
asking all to live once more
when all I want is to die
lay on the earth evermore

green where the gray once ruled
this was the parlor replaced by greed
of the mercies I’d reject
if choice were mine to apply

April was unbidden by my heart
asking more than I can find
perhaps it will pass while I sleep
or must I wake to live again?

© 2017, Sean Green.
Poem - Swing Spring

I wanted to do a poem about the heart, but I got sidelined by reading about the importance of the springs used with swings. Oh my... and a poem was inspired. I'll do the heart thing another time!

Swing Spring
Poem for Day 050 – 20150220

Warning my friend,
from the discrete purveyors,
swing springs
are not just for suspension.

Bouncy bouncy,
it is just great fun,
but it has a reason too,
so let's stay in the mood!

It is better to stop slowly,
stretch 4 to 6 inches,
than to stop suddenly
and risk dire injury!

Smooth and steady,
the spring is the cause,
rhythmic motions
with no jars or jolts.

So install the magical thing,
that wonderful spring,
it is there for your safety,
so says your friend Abby!

© 2015.
