Poem - Saving Allotted Time
The poem “Saving Allotted Time” is about understanding and responding to a person in the grips of deepest depression.
Saving Allotted Time
Hardship beckons in the moment
better than the a lifetime crying
wondering if words could save
the life then found on the edge.
Do not despair if ears seem mute
to the pleas that are heartfelt.
The suffering are in the grip
of demons past this sentiment.
Understanding may struggle here,
the healthy are dumb to sick.
While you may not comprehend
your company is heaven sent.
Try not to judge, there is no malice
on the part of those despondent
with life lived as hell on earth
before departure to halls of afterlife.
Shift their gaze from the pit,
tell them that there is a way
to move beyond a sad escape
that robs the world before their time.
With love and therapy, medicine and patience,
they will return in spirit found
to embrace emotions and body now
to stay on earth for their allotted time.
