I am twice as old as many of my dance friends. I see some of the relationship struggles, and then think back to the people that I've met. My thoughts move to the people I am still meeting, and I realize that life's capacity to surprise is only surpassed by the magic of those who are revealed.

Destiny's Destination
Poem for Day 141 – 20150521

When I was a younger man,
believing I knew of my fate,
with life's mates on this road,
I was the fool with much to learn.
Now I am as young as I will be,
with supposed wisdom earned.
I feel my destiny in the wind,
blown to land I know not where.

I witness a cast of many,
so diverse in variety.
The more I've seen, the less I know
of my connection to the world.
Beauty surrounds me, blinding me,
so many have come and have gone,
parade of others I could desire,
close out hand, out of heart's reach.

A spark seen in twilight's echoes,
the one I did not expect to see,
gift of the gods, seen by only me,
where have you been my missing half?
Faint time left, but still enough
to make a place together here.
My life's unexpected partner,
beauty bequest to this humble man.

I thank my blessings this morn,
you are more than I deserve,
that be said, I will accept
destiny's destination of my heart.
If I could take another path,
and up in in another place,
sorrow would be my companion
because I would not be with you.

“Bublé in My Head” is another romantic dance poem, but in my defense, that’s what you get when you listen to the Michael Bublé station on Pandora internet radio. Michael starts with a classic big-band jive, pours on the jazzy side, adds a dash of pop, bunches of romance, and the outcome is a wonderful dance with a partner.

Bublé in My Head
Poem for Day 142 – 20150522

Bublé in my head,
crazy love so intense
romantic sentiments expressed
that urge my feet to dance.

To be loved is my desire,
to dance with you my delight,
Bublé stands by my side
while I swing with you this night.

Happy feet with a quite a smile,
I'd be nowhere else but with you
Michael provides the sappy tunes
and we'll dance close side by side.

Musical peers fill the space,
and still we are close attached,
nothing to do this magic eve
but dance to the jazzy beat.

Then the one comes on,
a song for you and me,
tears come to my happy eyes,
by your side the only place to be.

Bublé in my head,
with you close at hand,
I may be in heaven some day,
but I'm close enough to it tonight.

My introverted extrovert self enjoys doing a bit of artistic creation, be it photos, poems, or a bit of expressive dance. Sometimes I shine. If I do it is only because I’ve been walking that path for a while. The really neat thing about sticking to an artistic effort is the intuitive creative side that manifests after the nitty-gritty technical stuff is (mostly) settled. All of this is the focus of my poem “Overnight Success”.

Overnight Success
Poem for Day 143 – 20150523

Masterful practitioner,
an overnight success,
what is your secret way
to creation's masterpiece?
So asks the uninformed,
enjoying the fruits of years,
gleefully given, well received,
but hard earned by the likes of me.

I have no secret, no sauce to share,
I've made mistakes, more than most,
and in due time, so many years,
I've found myself in this place.
Be it rhythm, rhyme, or meter,
composition’s helpful hand,
the outcome of my meager works
flows from time and effort spent.

Skills earned, tools collected,
these are part, but something more,
not conveyed in lesson or book,
an innate knowing so mysterious.
A hunch of what works and not,
intuit flows of picture and verse,
I am amazed, delightfully so,
of the things put forth to you.

Practice in the art's shadows,
finding a place all your own,
built on giant's past shoulders,
the personal made intimate to you.
A master practitioner you'll be,
an overnight success indeed,
glory in fruits of long past
and look forward to greater things.
