Poem - A Slice of Garlic Bread

A friend posted a statement about gender and garlic bread. Further digging on my part found that it referred back to the Facebook page Garlic Bread Memes. I used this all as inspiration to write the poem “A Slice of Garlic Bread”.


A Slice of Garlic Bread

Don't be confused by how I look
the surface is the starting point
when deep below I manifest
toasted goodness as my gender.

The basis of my identify
is glutton rich in consistency
a baguette is who I seem to be
identity's quest for nourishment.

The staff of life not like sex
the body's functions quite distinct
from garlic's tinge on my breath
and butter rich as condiment.

Cheese is my queer option
added to make life more pleasant
cheddar or feta both will do
depending on my current mood.

Neither frozen nor store bought
I am original before baking
then cut crossways or in strips
toasted goodness as my gender.
