Poem - Lucky Enough
Jan. 17th, 2017 09:08 pmA pretty neat friend posted the quote “it’s often difficult for those who are lucky enough to have never experienced what true depression is to imagine a life of complete hopelessness, emptiness and fear”. This led me to process a bit, resulting in the poem “Lucky Enough”.
Lucky Enough
When the destination is down
too often than I would like
how can I express this to those
who know nothing of struggle?
The hope comes in short spurts
spawned by the moment’s curve
then I slide back to the curse
of feelings at the lowest point.
The emptiness is the norm
with filling invisible
though it seems otherwise
opaque to the wider world.
The fear of not continuing on
occupies the thoughts between
the business of here to there
la la la, let’s not think of that.
I wish I could imagine
instead of live this reality
I could be lucky enough
instead of in this living hell.
