Poem - Thoughts Reflect
Dec. 17th, 2017 05:00 pmMahatma Ghandi is credited with the quote “A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” I considered this while watched a YouTube video about activist words vs. activist actions. The result of this is my poem “Thoughts Reflect”.
Thoughts Reflect
Thoughts reflect from my words
outward focused in my poems
bold statements are the norm
do they match my life revealed?
my sentiments uphold themselves
standing while I may lay
stating more than I may say
due warning from the message sent
compassion wait to be exposed
signaled by the lines I share
harbinger of what will come
look to see if they combine
how I act will then be judged
against the words that came before
with hope that I will stand the test
put by foes and friends alike
I may share a nuanced point
prick the mammoth of their thoughts
this alone may not suffice
to move the mountain, to change their mind
flowered words reduce the guard
armor thrust out to protect
becomes inadequate to the task
when the bard calls out the wrong
in that place they’ll hear the breeze
a whisper stating there’s more to see
thoughts are shared as drops are put
into the ocean to share my world
now the thoughts have been sent
letters ascribed to divulge
suggesting at who I may be
mirror to those who hear.
