Poem - Shadow of the Sky

“Shadow of the Sky” is about coping with depression while in the grip of depression. Relief is difficult to imagine when the scourge is the focus.


Shadow of the Sky

I asked the storm if it knew
why the sky could be so blue
it answered with a grim smile
‘I’d like to know that for myself’

when the sight is drawn below
considered vital to short lives
ignoring charms above the arc
questions spring to asking minds

how could the shadow of the sky
discern what lays above its crown
when mortal coils far below
distract it from the sun above?

the reply came in short time
considered for millennium
‘look to yourself for the key
I’ll only echo what you see’

‘blue is thought to be the norm
by those who visualize
azure from the myths of man
imagined when I reign above’

this was enough to sate my quest
now I knew where I should look
in an effort to reconcile
the malaise that held my life

ancient ones came and went
with only knowledge of their state
this could be my same fate
unless I break from this nightmare.
