The Reality Next Door

I watched Ghost Hunters International tonight and had a realization. The investigators often have EMP voices. These are voices that are heard in recordings but not by ear. While these can be eerie, they do not match the hair raising phenomenon of hearing a disembodied voice with the ears. Likewise, an odd shaped picked up in a picture after the fact is less spooky than a personal experience of seeing an apparition in person. Why the difference? I believe it is because the personal experiences make the spirit encounters immediate, connecting them to our personal "reality". This is spookier than believing it is next door, out of sensory experience, and only seen/heard after the fact. Hmmm... something to think about.
