This weekend I took pictures of the demolished Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church in Laurens SC. Last year I took pictures of the church while it sat abandoned. In April of this year the back wall of the church collapsed. The decision was made to demolish the church. An article in the local newspaper gives a history of the church and it's unfortunate fate. An interesting twist is that it appears the two towers are being retained for integration into another structure, or so my reading of the newspaper articles tells me.
It appears that the stain glass windows were salvaged as the rear wall collapse did not impact the majority of the building. Taking the pictures in 2008 gives me satisfaction that I helped preserve in pictures a bit of history.
