The Subject of Love

Is there a difference for you between "being in love" and "loving somebody"? If there is a difference, what is it?

For me there is a common word in these two turns of the phrase, but they are worlds apart. I wonder if it is the same for others...

Good question. For me "being in love" is more of an all-encompassing state, whereas "loving somebody" is more of a 'surface' love. If that makes sense at all.
