The poem “One Time at Band Camp” was inspired by a series of scenes in the 1999 movie “American Pie”.


One Time at Band Camp

And one time at band camp
the flute was my tool
just as these words
fill your head full
with pillow fights
lost music sheets
playing forever
thinking of Bach
whenever I’m bored
so much time to spend
it’s half what I learn
education at hand
to fluting the reed
finding the base
getting myself out
when antsy feels
I just want to bang
the cymbals together
this one time at band camp
are we going to screw?
