[livejournal.com profile] wulfwalker and I went thrift store shopping today. She found a great little book named "I Sing for the Animals" by Paul Goble. The rear flap of the books says "Paul's lifelong interest in the Plains Indians has resulted in the creation of picture books that comprise a literary heritage cherished by Native Americans and those interested in their culture". The short sayings in the book echo this, and I would like to share some of them.

Caught my eye:

Nothing in nature is evil. We may sometimes dislike flies or spiders, the skunk or snakes, and yet they only do what their Creator means them to do.

Caught [livejournal.com profile] wulfwalker's eye:

We see God in the sun and the moon, and in the rocks and mountains, and in all the works of his Creation. We draw near to him when we are close to the things that he has made.

Good stuff...

Oh, I can't begin to tell you how much I disagree with this. Humans are in nature, and there are some humans that have lived in history that I would consider evil. Soulless evil.

We see God in the sun and the moon, and in the rocks and mountains, and in all the works of his Creation. We draw near to him when we are close to the things that he has made.

This is such a cross-religion statement (it feels very Christian in tone); I like it, too.

Having checked out his name in American Indian criticism circles, it looks like he is well respected among the community as well. That means a lot considering there are so many "Native American authors" who misrepresent the Nations and perpetuate stereotypes in their stories.

Your response is very insightful on several levels. I'll agree to disagree with you, but I only do so with the knowledge that you are right in some very important ways. (smile). I'll blog more fully on this later.

I just came across something interesting, an insight 'How' people may turn evil, about neural paradigms, and a whole lot more.... Again, a different take, different, fresh angles.

Interesting! It looks like I'll have to take some time to fully explore the material.
