is there a reason to be afraid of the dark? Does the darkness hide another world? Light and darkness are benefit only one sense, sight. Is sight enough of a sensory input to judge the world or does it take more to really see what is out there?

Sight gives you a more holistic view than the other senses. Think about the blind men and the elephant. It also enables you to see things before they hit you - along with sound, it's the danger-sense. IMO that's probably why we feel insecure when we're deprived of it; to be comfortable in the dark, you need to have faith that nothing's coming for you...

Funny you should mention that. I just finished watching this week's Doctor Who episode and it's kinda all about that.

Alas, it's a cliffhanger. I'll let you know what the Doc thinks next week.

Our body also knows the lack of light. It's entire chemistry changes when we live mostly indoors. The body, and the instincts within it, can guide the eyes - if we're willing to listen.

I'm actually afraid of being in the woods at night for some odd reason. Of course that could be because my woods are haunted and tend to change geographically overnight.

hell yes! It took me years to finally figure out that I was "seeing" things and that I didn't need to be afraid of them. I still get spooked though.
