Human Nature?

I am finding a disturbing trend in the Dean Koontz I've read and listened to. The main villains are truly evil, but yet they have veins of sanity and "normality". Sometimes they seem more "normal" than the heroes. This is especially true in the book I am now listening to, "Dark Rivers of the Heart".

I am left wondering if regularl people are like this. Do we have things about us that push us to the edge of normality? Are we so unaware of these things that we believe normality surrounds us, but others see something very different? Food for thought...

I feel that there are few people who are deliberately 'evil' ... most people are just being who they are, trying to prove their opinion or perception, doing the best they are able to ....

A truly, deliberate evil person would be very rare. I think most people that are monstrous tend to be either A. sick, or B. misguided.

I don't think many of us are evil, but we are terribly terribly human. The pondering I was doing is whether or not people are blind to their more flawed aspects of humanity.

I don't think most people are deliberately evil. A lot of people end up incidentally evil. Strangely enough, the more I observe, the more I find the people we dislike are just like ourselves.
