kokopelle: Black Cat (Cat - Black)

I was watching Dog the Bounty Hunter tonight. The "hunt" of the day bagged a fugitive who was traveling with his wife. The spouse was very sad that her husband was being taken away. The fugitive was charged with drug related crimes (dealing, theft). Was the wife a fool for being involved with a felon? Is love truly blind and can anybody have somebody who cares for them no matter what life they lead?

I can relate to a degree. I am a practicing pagan "priest". People of other religions would consider me evil, or at the least, a pitied pawn of the ultimate evil. There are many many people who would potentially believe this, but this does not dissuade my lovely mate from being at my side. How different is my situation from those people who lead "unlawful" lifestyles either by choice or by the power of addictions? Hmmmm...

felons are people too. Just because they've done something bad doesn't mean they're bad people. Maybe it's just me having had so many friends and family members go through prison, but I don't see felons as being so different from myself. I currently have no plans to commit felonies, but I realize I could theoretically be there too.

I like your point that doing something bad does not mean somebody is bad.

While I don't have family going through prison, I am recognizing that the human condition is a complex and fragile thing. There are many tribes both big and small. The largest of the tribes have widely accepted and enforced rules, but this does not prevent the smaller tribes from flourishing and maintaining their own rules that are contrary to the larger tribe.

This is a fascinating subject. Thank you for your input!

You might want to look at restorative justice systems. A lot of indigenous and traditional societies use them. It seeks to bring the "criminal" back in harmony with society and make things right instead of isolating and punishing.

It's pretty easy for any practicing shaman to be an inadvertent felon.

If you have any raptor feathers in your gear, have a glance at the law.
