When is the dance with the edge just a dance vs. an addiction? I think the difference is the surrounding situations. They are a measure of either grace or insane dervishes.

. . . and in the interest of clarity, to confuse things even more: When is the dance with the edge simply geography or geometry that we try to "control" by reframing through our various our black/white orientations? Bilateral symmetry is part of our individual experience strengthened by culture that goes back through human history.

If a life is an edge life, not just one that cycles through the edge experiece of episodic initiation, then the experience of being human becomes a process of applying human contexts (denial, obsession (aka addiction), dynamic engagement (aka dance), co-opting, and all sorts of others.

One way to resolve this (and address your question of dance/addiction) is to change the experience geography. Genuinely move away from the edge. If it's a constant in your life, move away, and then revisit it deliberatly as an "Outward Bound" sort of adventure, with reliable allies on the ropes both to assist the experience and debrief your re-entry.

The most difficults sorts of edges to shift geographically/geometrically are those that are within us. Depression is an edge.

I have found that one of the key questions in life is whether one is running away or running toward. On the other hand, "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day."
