With age comes some degree of tolerance of life that sometimes looks like wisdom or patience. It just is not worth while getting excited lots of things. Things will work and things will not work. A disconnection from outcomes is part of the mystical/spiritual experience. It is all about being "in the world but not of the world". One of my favorite explanations of this comes from the writings of Carlos Castaneda. From the Second Ring of Power...

I have taught you to be dispassionate. The world of people goes up and down and people go up and down with their world; as sorcerers we have no business following them in their ups and downs. The art of sorcerers is to be outside everything and be unnoticeable. And more than anything else, the art of sorcerers is never to waste their power.
