kokopelle: Horse Totem (Surprised)

I received an e-mail that read:

“I have the ability to see inside of people. What I mean is I can see the blood moving, organs, bones. I can see problems in the body, from cancer to old healed injuries and blocks in energy. I can see these things as clear as you see peoples clothes on their bodies. This causes problems, what am I to say to someone who needs to see a doctor.......”

“I am hoping that you have some info on this ability. I feel that if I can get a better understanding of this it would be easier to accept. Thank you for your time.”

There is a challenge here. It is clear that the correspondent had an understanding of what their medical intuition shows them. They knew the difference between an energy block and a physical injury. The question that begged an answer was, “what am I to say to someone needs to see a doctor?” This question is timeless, as all intuitive gifts demand some action when the gift is taken seriously.

Intuition comes in many forms. The e-mailer’s medical intuitive abilities are advanced, but the person reading tarot cards has the same challenge. Any intuitive reading, done for another, will reveal some information about them. Consider an individual who receives several types of intuitive readings. A hunch from the stomach will reveal that a person is overly taxed. A tarot reading will reveal that their job is compromising strongly held ethical beliefs. A chakra reading will reveal that their 5th and 2nd chakras are shutting down. A medical intuitive read shows a lingering throat problem and cancer potential in the colon. An astral reading shows a darkness at the stomach area and a hole in etheric body. All of these intuitive readings are showing the same thing in different ways.

Intuition, in any form, carries responsibility. Intuition conveys knowledge, and any form of knowledge carries responsibility. To know something binds you to that thought form in some way. A reaction is called for to resolve the connection. What are some examples? Start with a big one – the poisoning of the planet with pollution. How are you going to react to this knowledge? End with a small one – the kitchen counter is dirty. How are you going to react to this one? What is the difference in responsibilities and your subsequent reaction? Does your reaction change your connection to the knowledge?

Sometimes knowledge is trivial to you and not trivial to others. What is the difference? The fact that the European fashion scene is going to black with silver trim may mean nothing to you, but it means everything to the NY designer. What is the difference? The difference is the choice made. You say “I get my clothes from Sears, so I don’t care about Italian runways.” Meanwhile, the fashion designer is frantically taking notes so they will continue to make a living. How about the knowledge that the landfills are at capacity, and the run off is poisoning the water table? The fashion designer makes a choice to ignore this knowledge. In fact, they perpetuate the problem with refuse and packaging. Their commercial enterprises add volumes to the landfill. You, on the other hand, can choose to recycle and dispose of trash in a responsible matter. Choice is the difference here!

Choice does have its own ramifications. Knowledge presents choices, which leads to actions or inaction, which in turn bear their own fruits. Karma is that stuff that comes back to us because of what we do. Karma can be good, bad, or just ugly. What determines the nature of karma? The simple answer is that the harmony of our choice, the integrity it has with our surroundings, that determines the nature of karma. Too often we have the right choice, the wrong choice, the harmonious choice, and all the shades in-between. This gets confusing! The key to dealing with ramifications of karma is to better understand what suffering is.

Suffering – we don’t like it. What is it? Let’s start with this definition: suffering is a measurement of disconnection from the harmonious. If smoking is disharmonious for our lungs, than disease will result. If overeating is disharmonious for our stomach, a belly-ache will result. If speeding is disharmonious with the posted speed limits, a traffic ticket will result. Suffering can be a reminder that we’ve done something that was not in our best interest. Some suffering can result from pre-incarnation choices, a lesson presented. The challenge is to bear the suffering and overcome it, even if the source is external to this life. This is a simple, but effective, way to look at suffering. This definition is also the gateway to understanding the role of the intuitive/healer and the person they are working with.

You receive an intuitive message of a person’s illness – their suffering. You see that it is there by a conscious or unconscious choice. What can you do? Can you heal them? Can you direct others to heal them? Yes and no. You cannot heal them. They must choose to be healed. They must choose to change those things in their life that caused the illness. What you, the intuitive or the healer, can do is to facilitate the person’s awareness of their condition. Sometimes a person’s condition will be too much for their own abilities to self-heal. Energy work and clinical medicines move a person’s energetic and physical health back to a point where the sufferer can handle the rest of the healing. The rest of the healing is the addressing of the root of the suffering. The root of the suffering is the original disharmony.

When do you react? When to you heal? Continue to listen to your intuition. Not everyone needs to be healing ASAP. Suffering is sometimes the reminder that things are not right. To interrupt the lesson of suffering also interrupts the completion of the lesson. A person who had bad relationship after bad relationship is being asked to learn about self-esteem. The person dying from terminal cancer is being asked to know why they are there, and to address those causes if they are to prolong their life. Is it your place to help them? Ask your guides, your angels, God, yourself – whatever intuitive source you have. You will know.

What are your qualifications? How strong is your intuitive information? Are you qualified to help the person? This is a very important in our secular, legal world. An intuitive person can recommend remedies. The same person cannot prescribe them. Do you know enough to say “take herb X” or do you just get enough information to say “you’re having stomach problems, I think you should watch what you eat”.? Remember that you are passing on knowledge to them. This knowledge connects you to them, and you bear responsibility for the results of how they use it. Be very clear, ethically and intuitively, that you are doing the harmonious thing so you don’t add to your own karma in bad way.

If an ill person cannot change their life, if the scale has tipped too far in favor of the illness, and they do not have the faith to cure themselves, than the illness will win. Have comfort in the morbid humor that life is a terminal condition. In the meantime we, as intuitives and healers, cannot hide ourselves from the world. We cannot give ourselves away to the world either. Abilities call us to use them responsibility through harmonious choices. What should the e-mail corresponder do when someone needs to see a doctor? If they really need to see a doctor, than by all means suggest this to them! If the issue is an energy block, and “modern medicine” can’t do a thing about it, suggest that they go to a person who does chakra balancing/cleansing. If you see that they are (once again) having a bad relationship, remind them that they are making a bad choice (again) and step aside. Remember that in the end you are at best a facilitator, a person who creates a healing environment, and that we heal ourselves in the end as we make peace with the our suffering.

One of the most challenging areas regarding intuitive gifts is ethics. So many folks today are awakening to giftedness and it is important to really get in touch with the issues involved.

Intuitive healers are no less bound by ethical considerations as anyone else. As a therapist, I would be liable if I walked up to someone and told them that they had all the signs and symptoms of ADDH, for example. As an intuitive healer, I am just as ethically responsible. the Golden Rule in any healing practice is that you do not do the work without the person's explicit permission.

In the case of "knowing" someone's problem, it is inappropriate to simply tell them what it is, or to offer solutions. Responsibly, the healer would give his or her own background in healing, and then offer to help. If the person says "no thanks", that ends it. It may be that the particular healer is not the one the Universe has lined up to help that person, but for whatever reason, if a person declines the offer, it is up to the healer to back away and let it be. We cannot read another's karmic path. This is one of the hardest things as a healer one will face, but it is essential to respect the other in all ways.

There is also the issue of using one's gift without the other's knowledge. It is all too easy to see what is going on with someone and as intuitive healers, it behooves us to learn boundaries around using that gift or ability. This takes work, but it is possible to learn how to stay visioned in the physical world, thus respecting the privacy of another. Anything less than that is spiritual or psychic voyeurism, and personally, I would not want the karma attached to that one...

My response to the e-mailer who stated these gifts and what to do with them would have been simple. Do not use the ability until you know how to do it responsibly and respectfully. I don't mean to sound blunt, but we as healers really need to be attentive to these issues and not believe that just because we can do something, that means we are supposed to in every situation.

Blessings

I think you've pretty much hit the big issue. Whether or not you can or can't do something doesn't mean you should or should not do something. It's that code of ethics that either makes us do it or not. You've brought up great arguments to your point, and I agree.
