A Poem from the Past
Mar. 31st, 2014 08:11 pmI'm going through boxes, a year after the official move, and I came across a poetry notebook I put together in August of 1981. I was a sophomore at Pacelli High School. My notebook featured "Euclid" by Vachel Lindsay, "The Last Quatrain of the Balled of Emmett Till" by Gwendolyn Brooks, "Museum Piece" by Richard Wilbur, "A Camp in the Prussian Forest" by Randall Jarrell", and a poem of my creation:
The Night
By Sean Green, August 1981
The darkness fell upon the village
Covering everything,
So deep and secret,
The Night
An African native hurries to his hut
Rushing fast,
Knowing what lurks in it,
The Night
Bringing incidents of evil and vice
So Terrible,
Policeman is shot in it,
The Night
All people hide from the doom
It comes,
Nothing can stop it,
The Night
By Sean Green, August 1981
The darkness fell upon the village
Covering everything,
So deep and secret,
The Night
An African native hurries to his hut
Rushing fast,
Knowing what lurks in it,
The Night
Bringing incidents of evil and vice
So Terrible,
Policeman is shot in it,
The Night
All people hide from the doom
It comes,
Nothing can stop it,
The Night
