This poem was inspired by my writing about how the poet both hides behind their words and is exposed by their words. The poet may be saying something about the big world, but know that they are bravely sharing a private part of themselves.


Pay No Attention
Poem for Day 005 - 201409278

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,
the poet behind the poem.
I am the great and powerful poetry,
to which your attention should be turned.

Toto has pulled back the curtain.
My flashy word show has been debunked.
Behind the power and puff stands
a mere poet tapping the levers of emotion.

Smoke and mirrors are my trade.
But you seen through my tricks.
There is nothing to fix it now.
I am merely the Wizard of Oz.
