The Syfy network has the show “The Internet Ruined my Life”. Thinking about the basis of this series inspired me to write the poem “Fame's End”.

Fame's End

May you live forever,
may the gods know your name.
Beware the monster
that eats its own this day.

Money is not the only lure,
the ego seeks its own desserts.
Pleasure is stroking's gain,
self-regard is quest attained.

The lure calls to the innocent,
seeking more than the common life.
What pulls them to their own sup,
glory's victim not yet spent?

The gateway is not seen by many,
preparation of the future spread.
The beast patiently waits
for the nourishment yet to be.

In time the faves will come,
followers liking material shared.
Sharing is the highest honor,
attracting monsters to the door.

It is too late when knives appear,
the line crossed when accolades come.
The fiend feeds well on glory's fruit,
the victim lives as forks descend.

The meal is taken slow,
no need to rush the feat,
flesh will be shared by all
with no conscience left to pain.
