Poem - Backwards

Some people are in our lives to give us pause and check the ego. The poem “Backwards” is about one of these bitter sweet relationships.

Backwards

One step backwards
give me pause
as world reveals
my greatest flaws.

Preconceptions
are past's ill gift
that must be purged
if I'm to live.

I thought I knew
what I should do
but now I'm wise
because I met you.

The gods put me
in my place
since you've revealed
my path to take.
