Poem - Mermaid

A Tumblr meme stated “BRB, quitting everything to be a mermaid”. This inspired me to write the poem “Mermaid”.


Mermaid

I am a hidden mermaid
daughter to the sea
enigma to the ones I meet
with fortunes good and bad.

Storms may be summoned
weather at my whim
hand of mighty Father
brings waves to my command.

Hearken not my whispers
when I warn of doom
enchantment is my tool
for those who find their end.

Wishes may be granted
when my whims dictate
there are many riches
hidden beneath the sea.

Greatest of my gifts
if you dare to ask
is the healing touch
delivered with a kiss.

You see me walk on the land
my skin still close at hand
then one day I’ll don the cap
to slip beneath the waves.
