Poem - To Heal

I've had the incredible gift of finally finding a person that I could go to for peer support. While there are many differences between myself and them, the challenging similarities are the cement to our dialogue.

It can take a number of forms such as peer mentoring, listening, or counseling. Peer support is also used to refer to initiatives where colleagues, members of self-help organizations and others meet, in person or online, as equals to give each other support on a reciprocal basis.".

Like for like
close enough to hear the voice
similar scars
provide the wisdom to touch a heart
secrets long held
released to the arms of a friend
shame released
with grace given to feel the light
equals in pain
each standing enough to lend a hand
no longer alone
when the excluded is seen as a norm
mentor found
to show the path beyond the shame
counselors trade
reciprocal gifts with stories shared
voice released
from the chains of isolation
no holds barred
the stigmas are ours to heal.
