kokopelle: Frank n Furter (Frank-n-Furter)
[personal profile] kokopelle
The poem “Souls Fly” was written for a contest with the prompt, “Women suckled men, men un-buckled them”. I have a number of past and present friends who work in the adult entertainment industry. There is no shame in that. There is shame in the apparent hypocrisy of customers who evoke one moral creed and then indulge in services that are contrary to their self-avowed righteousness. The poem also speaks to the power differential that is unabashedly celebrated by the customers during their time away from their faith.

Souls Fly

Building shadows and the bathroom stalls
painted parlors with plush velour
survival is the driving will
disregarding righteous rules.

Those are held by the kings
though not by title or decree
instead by might they walk the earth
above the ones that service needs.

"it's only human" the chiefs proclaim
"my demons urge licentious wants
how was I to disregard
biology, the coarse hardwired?"

Now the servants lewdly bend
on their knees, giving grace
while a god the masters serve
looks away as flesh is rubbed.

Genuflection becomes the norm
power senior, pleasure serf
given from the bodies' shell
the souls fly to safer realms.
