Poem - Deportment

kokopelleThe poem “Deportment” is about the revelations of dreams. The definition of the title is ‘a person's behavior or manners’. I put a normative spin on this meaning while waiting to dream again.
Deportment
When deportment slips away
behind the opaque wall of sleep
revelation is the gift
awareness treasured when I wake
only moi is there to see
when decisions are made plain
I reflect on how I feel
interacting with the world
the facade is left bare
revelation of the inner self
surprises at random times
garments taken to be worn
the apparel I desire
is embraced with rapt joy
patterns not from waking life
colors bright upon the eyes
if I'm lucky I'll not forget
these quick glimpses behind the scenes
what could be if I'm set loose
embracing essence oh so true
now deportment must return
displaying manners for the crowd
for a time this is OK
I'll slip away on pillow's face.
