The poem “Painted Strokes” was inspired by my artistic friends who push the envelope of performance.


Painted Strokes

Beauty braved the worse of taunts
creative spirits flaunting all
while sad shame was exclaimed
by the timid throwing stones

all the boxes that enclose
furious pundits with pitchforks
provides an echo that only soothes
the jangled nerves of those confused

turning to the sacred texts
looking back through time's dim halls
while they seek a common ground
with the base scandalous

those performers who push the edge
stating tastes most keep mute
vocalizing from their hearts
conduits to the hidden wants

the mirrors propped ask their due
with actors staged to confirm
lurid thoughts projected forth
creativity awash in joyous bliss

the cutting edge is beauty's tool
avant garde expressed as art
with the human as blank canvas
painted strokes of wry splendor.
