The poem “Bedroom Eyes” is about the very personal gazes shared by dancers. It is pretty incredible when a partner is found who can return intimacy by a shared look. The poem explores the power of these moments, and hunger that is satisfied.

Bedroom Eyes
Poem for Day 307 – 20151104

Why do we dance with bedroom eyes,
shutters wide open to sky?
Searching for that in between,
the touchstone of what should be.
I am now revealed to the world
in this moment of openness.
Perhaps you feel the same as well,
for your eyes hold nothing back.

Somewhere there I'll find myself,
the piece of me far behind
during the journey's struggle
that brought me to this shore.
Before the dance I was lost,
traveling the lands far away,
unreconciled with the others
found there on the dusty trail.

So many partners looked away
unable to return my gaze.
I was diminished a little bit
each time I did not exist.
The world became inhospitable,
impersonal became the norm
as my vision turned to the sky
and the stars began to fade.

In that place I was nearly lost,
the lights gone out all around.
The dance saved my immortal soul,
in that place I found your face.
The spotlight found its mark,
resting on the unexpected,
fated partner of circumstance,
the one that I dance with now.

The shutters have been opened,
the sky shattered with God's light.
Recognition of shared humanity
brings me back from the fade.
The dance will be secondary,
the backdrop to the main event.
My soul now safely resting
in the arms of bedroom eyes.

I've had the honor of knowing people on the fringes of “normal” society. I am comfortable with them because I know I could have been them, willingly, if my cards had been dealt differently. Normal is as normal does.

In the Eyes
Poem for Day 249 – 20150907

Look me in the eyes,
straight into my life.
Put aside judgment
as you see within.
My eyes do betray
my humanity.

The outward portrays
and distracts as well.
The tattoos are mine,
the piercings also.
Look above the rest,
I'm more than my chest.

In my eyes you'll see
another looking
back into your soul.

Gender expression,
who I choose to be,
is my both my choice
and biology
combined into
who I seem to be.

I may pay the bills
in ways you dislike.
I may bump and grind,
using my assets,
just as you use yours
in ways best for each.

In my eyes you'll see
the reflection of
tinge of jealousy.

My predilections,
the sexual kinds,
arousal wired,
you may disagree,
perhaps even shocked,
that is how I freak.

Look me in the eyes,
they look back at you.
Spare me the judgment,
who you think I am.
I can see the world
my place next to you.

In my eyes you'll see
reflection of
one you could have been.
One you want to be,
seeing the hidden
one mirrored in me.

Contradancing is a form of dancing in which the dancer's gazes are mutually engaged. The poem “All in the Eyes” is about the connection between two people when they dance. The world drops away, and the eyes speak louder than words.

All in the Eyes
Poem for Day 060 – 20150301

All in the eyes, that's what they say.
Seats of the soul, that's all I see.
When I dance with you, next to me.

Just smiling, speak not with your lips.
Just touching, sign not with your hands.
Talk with your eyes, volumes to me.

Near as we are, shape matters not,
So close to me, submerged in love,
so speak with your eyes, say it now.

Reveal your need, shared now by me.
Express your passion, flash eyes flirtatious.
I know your needs, they are mine too.

You've spoken to me, shared your dreams.
Lips said no words, eyes spoke instead.
World shrunk to us, staring across.

I'll drown in them, and you in mine.
So much has been said, nothing more,
as I dance with you and you with me.

I've met a few people in my life with incredibly deep gazes. Two passed by my vision at a dance. There is such power in a gaze like that, and I cannot turn away. There was a connection. Yes. Was it them, was it me, is it us? They are the source, I merely recognize the condition and return my own.

Look Into the Eyes
Poem for Day 075 – 20141207

Look into the eyes
unblinking orbs
look into the soul
absorbing it all.

I see clarity
of purpose unknown
I see vitality
of source deep within.

A life resides here
welcoming you
inviting visit
dare you step inside?

The eyes hint at much
a world is offered
nothing is promised
destiny unknown.

Pools of emotion
shadows linger there
beware the deep depths
promises not made.

Kindness is revealed
return it in kind
lest you find there
a dagger unsheathed.

Look into the eyes
beauty thy name
do entrance my mind
and be still my heart.
