kokopelle: Frank n Furter (frank_n_furter)
My wife and I saw the USA Today article about the GQ article quotes by Phil Robertson. USA quoted him saying:

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

We thought, gee, that just sounds like the guy voicing a fairly common belief held by many many Christians.   The Fox News article says that this is a paraphrasing of Corinthians.  While it could be seen as anti-gay, it could also be anti-greedy, anti-drunkard and so on. The actions of gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD seemed to be over the top and A&E's reaction seemed to be an over reaction. Well... I got home and did some poking around. The rest of the story came out with Phil saying the following in the interview prior to the USA reported quote:

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong... Sin becomes fine,” he said. “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

OK... yep... the smoking gun is revealed. Does he have the right to say this in an interview? Sure... but the reactions of GLAAD and A&E also make more sense. Promoting homosexuality as a gateway to bestiality is NOT COOL. Shoot, he equates bestiality with good old fashion fortification or timeless adultery. I suspect that Masters and Johnson wouldn't back that assertion. Sorry Phil, you stepped on that land mind and I can see how A&E is doing damage control by keeping you off of the camera.
