The poem “Cookie Cutter” is a poetic fever dream about the conservative elements of society, the ones that attack unlike parties, realizing their position is untenable. Sadly, it is perpetual. I can still dream.

Cookie Cutter

The cookie cutter serves the whole
stating shapes and attitudes
functionality most embrace
at detriment of the least
this minority of number’s count
just as important as the rest

still they appear to be mangled bits
separate from the measured cuts
the molds align society
to responses without thought
automated to confirm
or attack out of concern

antibodies stamped from fear
masquerading as diligent
protectors of the factory
that false illusion of chemistry
these starting points in the sand
patterns engraved with certitude

they’re only blessed in calmest times
and not when the wind begins to blow
still the stalwarts hold the flanks
enveloped by the swirling breeze
the cookie cutter fails them then
past certitude now overwhelmed.

The poem “Hate is Required” was inspired by the question of whether dysphoria is required in order for a person to be truly transgender. The answer is no. This does not stop some people for acting as gatekeepers to the trans identity. The resulting poem can also apply to other groups that require the members to either hate themselves or others in order to be considered full members.

Hate is Required

They say hate is required
to define a state of mind
for the self or other ones
only then will purpose shine
nothing less is a fraud
pretending towards the greater goal

set aside by the holy saints
now enforced by strident imps
joyful that righteousness
found a place to lay its head
safe from those without cuts
that deny godliness

the diagnosis will depend
on the bleeding from the wounds
more for the best after all
when injuries are surely bless
where the gate should open wide
the guardians hide the key

as the test falls too short
or exceeds the latitude
that those who pass beyond the walls
are truly wounded and then absolved
the see the hurt in the world
as the measure for the all.

Alex Castellanos, a top strategist for the pro-Trump super PAC Rebuilding America, explained how the smearing of Obama could be accomplished without prejudice, racism, bigotry, and any other word that the Left applies to Alex's ilk. The poem "Otherness" is about Alex's keen insight.

Note, I fully blame listening to Amanda Palmer (formerly of Dresden Dolls) for my writing poems like this. She is full of otherness, and I love it dearly. In a perfect world I would be as otherness as her.

Otherness

Here's how we'll know you
in purity
outside of bias
hostility
here's how we'll mark you
in perfect love
hear how we'll do it
defective one

racism banished
race matters not
bigots vanished
opinions flushed
prejudice ended
there goes bias
this is the start
to peace on earth

yet here you stand
flawed wretch detected
get in our box
with statements color blind
without preconception
antagonism
discrimination
preconception
finding you faulty
with old fashion ways

we don't claim specifics
the proven of religion
birthplace of body
you are normal you see
air breathing freak
living on planet earth
inferior waste of human skin

listen closely poor sod
you know you're flawed
when all we do is apply
a single word
in perfect love
with perfect trust
because we aren't cursed
with this awful thing

otherness is the bane
the fly in the soup
discrepancy
distinction
contrariety
diversity
dissimilitude
(please stop me now)
I could go all day
and I might throw up

that thing I can't label
otherness
because labels are bad
otherness
that somethingness
otherness
you sadly embrace
otherness
so out of order
other-thing
you damaged one.

you're very welcome
now you're aware
of your otherness
of your self blight
how we've helped so kind
with clean hands
gown angel bleached
that's because we care
inside our harmony
living away
from your otherness.

Hate crimes do not exist in a vacuum. The perpetrators are the visible edge of a societal illness. The trend now is to call them insane or mad. The truth is bigger than this soothing fairy tale told by society to ease it’s conscious.

Insane Iceberg
Poem for Day 175 – 20150624

They call him insane,
mad virgin birth,
society not to blame.
Hold fast to that lie
if you dare to hide,
for the truth of it madness,
an inch deep and a mile wide.
Shift the narrative,
the perspective changes,
with society in blame instead.

Pride of heritage
instead of
raging hatred.

Maintaining order
instead of
state of terror.

Tradition embraced
instead of
power retained.

Defending constituents
instead of
suppressing outsiders.

Preserving history
instead of
continuing discrimination.

Does that feel better now?
The man is no longer to blame.
Insanity is a matter of perspective,
gradients of shared introspection.
The man is as alone as
the tip of the insane iceberg.
