kokopelle: (Goren Guilty)
I have to post my derision for the pardon of Lewis "Scooter" Libby. He has been released from his sixty month sentence, only serving probation and paying a fine.

For his part President Bush has been credited with the following remarks:
President Bush said he had until now refrained from intervening in the case, waiting instead for the appeals process to take its course.

"But with the denial of bail being upheld and incarceration imminent, I believe it is now important to react to that decision," he said.

"I respect the jury's verdict," President Bush said. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr Libby is excessive," Mr Bush said.

However, he said, Libby's remaining punishments - the probation period and fine - were "harsh" and would leave his reputation "forever damaged".
It would be a miscarriage of justice for Lewis Libby to have so many influential associations and still go to jail. Besides... look at how traumatic prison time was on Paris Hilton. How fair would it be to impose such a psychic toil on a person who was merely serving the highest good of his country? Libby's good name has been preserved, his reputation not damaged, by Bush's compassionate non-partisan act.
