The poem “Sorry Lover” was loosely inspired by the song “Written in Blood” by the group She Wants Revenge.

Sorry Lover

Sorry lover but you can’t look back
to the sheets thrown to the floor
forgotten while bodies press
ghosts lost to passion’s bliss

promises once had a place
fealty against death’s cold hand
the declarations none will admit
when light of day too soon arrives

strong emotions aren’t cast aside
instead replaced with grounded angst
along with rage of what should be
tears spilled on pillows drenched

promises lost along with pride
if only this came to pass
along with advice none request
sorry lover please don’t look back.

The poem “The Wicked and Divine” was inspired by the lyrical line, “You trick your lovers / That you're wicked and divine” from the song “Undisclosed Desires” by Muse.

The Wicked and Divine

Consider lovers
the wicked and divine
reflections of the flesh
shown without reserve
heights attain in pure joy
sinners before the fall
until another comes
their place now assured

emotions spun to remove
concealment the heart
disregard the normative
diversion is the goal
endings sought for relief
before desire is resolved
in the end lovers fall
the wicked and divine.

Listening to swing music gets me in the mood to write a bit of romantic prose. The poem “Loving You” is dedicated to those with whom I had incredibly intimate relationships. They are in the past, no longer intimate in the present, but the love created continues on to this day.

Loving You
Poem for Day 129 – 20150509

Decades have passed and still you command
a portion of my waking thoughts.
Time sped by, chasing in the future,
and still you bring a smile to this one.

We were once intimate, more than most,
lovers perhaps, only we will know,
in that past time, so long ago,
you were the very best to me.

Your touch, your laugh, precious to me.
Along with your thoughts, your company.
I was blessed by your companionship,
echoing until this current future day.

We are separate, miles between us,
commitments incompatible,
earnest vows made to other ones,
but this does not lessen a feeling.

You are precious still, a vibrant soul.
We maybe older, no longer maybe lovers,
in its place something more sincere,
an easy way to keep on loving you.

I find it funny that a large number of my poems are sensual love letters . Is an engineer supposed to write such stuff? Should poetry just be about angst and pain and tortured souls? The explanation seems easy. While I do struggle with self-worth, self-love issues, I am madly in love with the beauty of the world as a whole. As a result I end up writing sappy, sometimes randy, poems about love and its place in our lives.

Poem’s Revelation
Poem for Day 114 – 20150424

If they could weigh the world,
the measure of every soul,
the height of every heart,
They’ll never truly know
why we are not meant to be apart.

Dare I pen a poem, pay homage to you?
Will they learn of your magic,
the place I hold you in life?
I'll take the risk, danger unknown,
to praise you and reveal the source.

You are greater than a sum
of everything combined in one.
The moon, the sun, galaxies beyond,
hold no candle to your presence,
creation’s pinnacle, delight to behold.

Sultry seductress, chaste companion,
and all of life's roles in between.
Touch my heart, bless my soul,
stroke my body, be oh so bold,
treasured traveler on life's trail.

You take my breath away,
rob me of speak coherent.
I can't confess to you that
I’d lose the world, my life in fact,
to have you always by my side.

So I pen a poem, a love letter to you.
I don't care if others know,
their envy confirms my knowing,
that I'm blessed with another,
the best that the world can offer.

I've been blogging since 2007. In the past year my written expressions were limited to the introductions of my poems. Why? I've found poetry to be a powerful vehicle for stating so much in such a small space. The words wrap around themselves, transporting both the poet and the reader to a sum greater than the individual words combined. The poem “Bard's Gift” is about a poet writing about troubled lovers, illustrating the poet's role in imagined imagery.

Bard's Gift
Poem for Day 111 – 20150421

Ponderings of a love denied.
expressed in poet's verse sublime.
Lyrical offerings fat with rhyme,
coldly judging as words combine.

Spin a tale of couple romantic,
sequestered together as they dance,
seeking solution to life's mysteries
or end to shared misery.

It's about life, and something more,
reality twisted to reveal the submerged.
Emotions tested and then confirmed
in lyric's statement of love proffered.

Could the end be worst than present?
Lovers seek that something beyond,
solution to romantic gambit,
testing bonds of love's resolution.

Still the prose continues on,
spilling words of found imagery,
suggesting an end most extreme,
for lovers star crossed on the edge.

Freeing moments from life's prison,
together for a time far to short.
Whispers echo to each other,
canyons divide love entwined.

The poet seeks words to express
the urges only two can feel.
Sadly the outcome is forlorn,
writing stumbles where lovers leap.

Hands reach, striving to fly afar,
seek to take hearts and lives alike.
If only the bard could deliver
a gift to two people so deserving.

The poem “Dark Delphi” is a lover's request for the withholding of society’s prophetic judgments.

Dark Delphi
Poem for Day 041 - 20150210

Dark Delphi speak not of our doom.
Instead look to the pleasure consumed.
Judge us not for what’s done this night.
Passions illicit we recite.
Bar the world from these lover’s door.
What happens there is our concern.
Society turn your harsh stare,
look away from lovers fate shared.

So go my thoughts as I hold you,
nothing between us in our embrace.
You are my focus this moment,
my vision of carnality.
All other things will cease to be
when my exploration begins.
My world ends at your lovely limbs,
your body the core of all things.

Dark Delphi hold your swift judgment.
In this person I am renewed.
Tomorrow may be the unknown,
matters not, tonight is our own.
The world is removed from our sight,
we from it in our own delights.
Bodies are joined as souls declare:
our eyes behold our shared desires.
