kokopelle: Black Cat (cat black)
Flowers are incredibly fragile, temporary things of beauty that celebrate both the glad and the sad. Because of this they are a fitting title for a poem about loss, and how loss is memorialized, even though there is no fitting acknowledgment of true loss.

Flowers
Poem for Day 206 – 20150725

That was the day I almost died.
Some say I survived the accident.
You and I know different though,
you in heaven and I'm still here.

Flowers are the memorial,
blessed flagrant acknowledgment,
statement of a life now transformed
on the day that I almost died.

The days go by, separated
from before by that fateful time.
The hours mark the absent of
the one that filled my mortal world.

The living one stands by your side,
against cold marble edifice.
Carved numbers state your time here,
six feet of earth between you and me.

Flowers are not enough my dear,
left at your stone memorial,
here to remember the one gone
on the day that I almost died.

kokopelle: (BRA - Dangerous)

I recently heard two song from the Pink Floyd album “The Final Cut”. The exposure reminded me that this album is a REALLY powerful set of music. The two songs that come to especially come to mind are “Two Suns in the Sunset” and “The Fletcher Memorial Home”. The later, “The Fletcher Memorial Home”, has outdated references, but it still has some incredible imagery. Here are some lines to from the lyrics:

take all your overgrown infants away somewhere
and build them a home a little place of their own
  the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings
  ...
did they expect us to treat them with any respect
they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead

Lock up the dangerous leaders! The is the message, but I feel a little conflicted about the outcome. Would this really work, or would we even want it?

Recently The Onion had an article with the title “Humanity Surprised It Still Hasn’t Figured Out Better Alternative To Letting Power-Hungry Assholes Decide Everything” (http://www.theonion.com/articles/humanity-surprised-it-still-hasnt-figured-out-bett,36361/). This may be a farcical article, but I also strongly suspect that it has a strong streak of truth. Can we, the common people, manage without our power-hungry leaders deciding everything? Sadly I doubt this.

Would we really want to not have strong leaders? Is the Onion dead-on when they muse “When pressed for further comment, however, every member of humanity agreed that the current system, though deeply flawed, remains far better than one in which they actually have to make decisions for themselves. ”? I wonder!
