The end of Christmas Day has me writing the poem “Another Year”. The end of the year holidays consume so much energy and time. They end, and then the cycle begins again. This can be bitter sweet and also time for renewed effort. Both paths are available.
Another Year
Poem for Day 358 – 20151225
All the gifts have been unwrapped.
The stockings search for loot inside.
Cards revealed with best wishes
for celebrants at the year's cold end.
Another year is winding down.
Days tick off till New Year's night.
The festive season has now passed
with turkey had and pie put down.
Father Time will soon expire
with babe at hand to take his place.
Champagne toasts shared with friends
drop the ball for celebrants.
The holidays are memorable,
humanity's best on display,
yet underneath there is a lure
to do the same another year.
With some luck we'll once again
watch the wheel repeat itself.
The holidays come and go,
to carry on will be our goal.
