What value does the artist have? This question was posed on a major media sharing site. I see the artist have tremendous power, but this influence is visible to a minority, yet felt by many.

The Artist's Work
Poem for Day 005 – 20150105

Possessor of special,
magical powers.
Transform the world,
one inspiration at a time.

Perhaps doom is coming,
as foretold by the prophets,
or could there be recourse,
presented by the artist.

Speak of the past,
in tones of reverence,
look to the future,
with hope held by one.

Hearts will be captured,
chains will be broken,
history rewritten,
re-imagined for all.

So look to the artist,
hail unlikely hero,
prophets step down,
bring forth the crown.

The end has begun,
the wall brought down,
step back the artist,
your work is done now.

Yes, I will admit that I am a polyjoborist. I am polyjoborous in my interests! My daytime job is as a Software Compliance Analyst. This is also known as a Software Quality Analyst. I am really a decently paid technical writer. At the same paying job I do a bit of programming! Outside of 9-5 I have a reputation as a photographer, poet, and blogger. I also program on the side and pursue a fair amount of computer science interests. Yes, I am a polyjoborist. I wrote the poem “Polyjobory” to explain this condition.

Polyjobory
Poem for Day 85 – 20141217

I have this passionate desire,
I am accepting this practice.
More than one intimate work relationship
with consent of everyone involved!
Polyjobory is abbreviated as poly.
Described as consensual non-jobgamy.
It does have a broader sense,
extending to my hobbies and other interests.

Here me now! This is not a casual work fling.
Do not confuse it with flirtatious employment.
While I may have several jobs at the same time,
all my jobs have ethics, honesty and transparency!
Please consider the source of my practice.
Poly is Greek from many or several.
Job is a variant of gobbe, mass or lump.
Together are quite different from part timing.

This is more than a philosophy for me.
It is in fact a lifestyle part of my biography.
I have multiple jobs, with interests of many types.
You could say I am polyjobnous if you were
to try to put me in a tidy little box.
An income is not a requirement for my work affairs,
No contract stating fulltime employment.
Some of my jobs I do for free, though some disagree!

The skills and rules of 9 to 5 must be retooled
to juggle my many complex work relationships.
You may not wish to reject work’s relational exclusivity.
Just know this however, polyjobory is committed.
It takes a person emotionally suited, ready for the foray,
to take on the variety of “employment” doorway.
I am flexible and fluid, ready to take on these jobs,
from salary to hobby, I practice polyjobory.

I have two more years before I turn 50.  This can be a fairly big time for those with a day job.  I've known friends that changed careers at about that time.  I'm considering doing this for my own reasons.  They spring from the realization that I have a finite number of years left in the work-a-day world.  I've got a pretty unique set of credentials that can take me in a number of directions.  Right now I'm in validation as a Software Compliance Analyst.  I do well at it, but I could do more what what I know and what I'm capable of.  Now is the time to make a change!  Then, hopefully, I can stay put while I ride out my final years in the job market.

Sometimes it is tough to do the right thing, especially when you're in allegiance to an organization. There are so many connections, gears and levers. You can work on the things under your control, and do them well, but at some point you want to reach to areas you don't have control over. It is called managing others. That is where life gets interesting...

Today I made a really big move at work.  I've worked with a certain department for years, writing software used by themselves and the plant.  The manager of the group has been helpful, but I had to push a lot of the initiatives in the face of the manager's reluctance.  Things have gotten really weird recently with the same manager having core job competency issues.  They are also in real danger of running off their right and left hand assistant.

Today I pushed forward a plan that would move the manager into a lesser position and elevate myself over the assistant and the initiatives of the department.  These duties would be in addition to my regular duties, but they are things I've been doing outside of my duties already, just in an unofficial way.  I the plan by my boss and the assistant.  My boss did not kill it right away and asked for a description of everyone's new job duties.  I've supplied that and now I am waiting for what will happen next.

Yep, big stuff.  We'll see were this goes.

Tonight I am multitasking, playing a console game and trying to get an ancient program to come back to life. Neither is going well... so much for doing two things at once!

I worked on the new house some more this evening. The achieved projects were: 1) Changing front door lock set 2) Fixing pull down attic stairs 3) repairing front screen door. The downside of the evening was listening to commercial radio. The music was OK. The really aggravating factor was the commercials. Gads... I despise commercials on both TV and the radio. I understand that people have to make money, but it is ridiculous to have as many minutes of commercials as there is music. I really need to set up an alternative music source!

Contractors, can't live with them, can't live without them (sometimes). Gads... Sadly I'm something of a "contractor" for my internal customers at work, so I have to consider if there are lessons here for me.

Here is a bit of SC sunset!

I had a pretty productive day. Half of the day was spent at work proving that an inspection system I designed worked. It did.

Tonight I had an interesting experience. I was watching "Dog the Bounty Hunter". The episode was "The Last Call". The episode synopsis follows:
Dog thinks he's got an average day of bounty hunting ahead of him, but he couldn't be more wrong.  Beth calls a client, Daphne, whose bond they have to revoke and makes a shocking discovery: Daphne's cosigner on her bond and ex-boyfriend, Bobby, has just committed suicide. Soon a sobbing Daphne turns herself in and Dog has his hands full trying to console her when another fugitive arrives at the office also to surrender. But it's not until Bobby's grieving mother arrives to confront Daphne that the emotional fireworks really start flying. It is a day filled with pain, sorrow and forgiveness--a day the Dog and the Da Kine team will never forget.
Here's the weird thing. I got really pissed at Daphne, the girlfriend who was left behind after the suicide of Bobby. I'm not sure what I was blaming her for, so I suspect it was an irrational (enough) thing of mine that popped up. I'll admit that I am the suicidal leaning type. Maybe I am identifying with Bobby. I became mad at the world around him that "led" him to suicide. The trick is that this theory is BS. Please note, the following comments acknowledge the exceptions of mental disease that robs people of 'sane' choices.

People can make lives a living heck for us. Stress can lead to shorter lives via illness, etc. The choice to check out REAL early via suicide is just that, a choice. Nobody is making us do it. The people left behind may be evil jerks, but they are not the ones who should receive the lion's share of blame. The person that killed them self probably deserves the recrimination. My own sickness is revealed when I view Bobby's suicide with a "he managed to do it" attitude and was angry with Daphne instead. Part of me isn't listening to my noble and sane words about choice and victims. Interesting... I guess you can learn something from TV.

Done!

I'm wrapping up a programming/database project that I've been working on since last year. It has been a long road.
