“The Haunt” was inspired by a combination of a meme and thoughts of the 2001 movie “The Others”. The meme, created by Leilah Ali, stated, “There’s no such thing as ghosts,” I say, gazing into the mirror. The irony came later. I’ve been dead for years.”

The Haunt

I shunned the spirits now departed
denied their right to exist
spoke to the mirror with righteous ire
there is no such thing as ghosts
whispers from the edge of sight
deny the mantra I'll repeat
no matter how I spend my breath
the evidence denies the rant

curtains cloak the tall windows
the past portal of light's entrance
when they're opened I view a world
filled by fog of somber gray
the garden paths where I walked
circle back to stolid doors
the only way to return within
while the gates to the outside are barred

lighting the candles against the dark
denying space for lingering wraiths
chasing specters with feeble flame
even as I dread the truth
still the shadows fill the room
meeting mine as lovers would
hinting knowledge I dare to speak
lest I admit my life has ebbed

the departed have their realm
with the unhappy not yet passed
mirror of the living state
existing behind the veil of death
so many years have progressed
I've been lost in certainty
now I know the time has come
to realize that I'm the haunt.

kokopelle: (Cthulu Hello)

This is another post about sensing and interacting with entities. My lovely wife and I both have the ability to sense spirits, both human and non-human. We independently sensed one human spirit in our new house and a nature spirit in the woods below the house. Thankfully the nature spirit is past the dog enclosure, and there does not seem to be any problems between the dogs and the entity. Sensing spirits isn't that hard. My previous house also had a spirit, a young woman who hung out in my bedroom. She seemed very sad when I looked at her, but nothing came of it in day to day life.

It is one thing to sense spirits. Like I said, it is not hard. Not every place has resident spirits. It would surprise you the places that do and don't have one hanging out. When entities are in a location, 99% of the time they are just there. No harm no foul with the living people in the same area. It is like saying that plants are in the front yard. They are there and you are in your house.

What if you go after the “bad” spirits? There is a new series on Sci-Fy called “Killer Contact”. A team of ghost hunters go after the bad spirits. Of course they pick Jack the Ripper for their premiere show! I have to assume that these guys and gals don't have a psychic bone in their bodies. If they did, well, they would think otherwise about pursuits like this. What if they could zero in on Jack and make contact with him? That would be like looking for poison ivy in your yard and stumbling straight into a thicket of it.  That doesn't have to happen.   It could turn out OK. If they are looking for poison ivy on the golf course, well, they just get some good exercise and nothing happens. Would I go looking for Jack the Ripper. Naw... I'll pass on that little game.

Would you participate in a ghost vigil? Are there times you would not?

From the website that I used to have, dated back to 2003:

The pictures below were taken at Poinset Bridge.  The bridge is located off of Old US HWY 25 outside of Greenville SC, and located "above Traveller's Rest".  Pictures were taken underneath the bridge and beside the bridge with nothing odd in the pictures.  The pictures below were taken on the far side of the bridge (from HWY 25).  Other "ghost" pictures have been taken there on film, digital, and video.

Notes

The pictures were taken with a Kodak C500 at night.  A brightness and contrast enhanced version of each photograph is presented along with the original photograph.

Picture 191:  There is a fog with orbs present in the left side of the picture.
Picture 192:  There are several orbs present
Picture 193:  Twenty seconds after Picture 192, orbs still present

For Your Consideration.  I present these pictures as a possible sample of ghostly photography.  No claims are made to their "authenticity".  Speculation is allowed.

I've taken lots of photographs in abandoned locations. To date I've have not captured anything that looks like a 'ghost' or paranormal energy signature. This tells me that such things don't show up on cue. I will admit that the pictures were all taken during the daytime, and there are people who believe that the time of day is important in levels of paranormal activity.

Has anyone had an experience with the paranormal and photographs? Was the event repeatable or did it seem tied to a particular location? Did the time of day matter? Thank you for your feedback on these questions.

A quick question before I go dancing tonight (and so that's the plan).

Have you ever lived in a "haunted house" or worked in a location that had the similar? Was the haunting more exceptional from the many 'real' accounts in TV and movies?

Just wondering!
