September 19-26, 2016, marks the time for Bisexual Awareness Week. GLADD (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) promotes the week as a recognition of bi and bi+ in regards to history, culture, community, and current policy priorities. For myself it is a celebration of choice and living as a human being. The poem "The Norm Beyond" explores the myths of bisexuality: gender confusion, laziness (not willing to choose), and loose morals.

The Norm Beyond

Is it too much to love
the world as a whole
to see all as beautiful?
To each there own is the call
attraction is the realm of self
extending to a wider world.

Awareness is the greatest tool
to relate to these ways
not to agree or condone mind you
just to see the human face
present in the condition whole
presented by the bi plus ways.

Confusion is not the case
anymore than others feel
when attraction is a puzzle
to step outside the formal box
lends a person to ponder life
to be sure that this is their choice.

Consider this not laziness
inclusion is the only path
to be drawn to the all
when geometry matters less
than finding the perfect one
of the same or different kind.

This is not a call to be a slut
discernment is still a goal
predilections have their sway
as the world is viewed
with a judgement of the desired
against the whole of humankind.

Thank you for listening to these words
speaking truth beyond the norm
of relating to same or opposite
while diversity is an option too
with human beings as themselves
with a single question to now voice.

Is it too much to embrace
the idea that bodies please
no matter the form they have?
The end game is the same
to find a person fulfilling needs
to find a soul that can complete.

An astute friend thought that my poetry was very sensual. I looked up the word and found a variety of meanings. These ranged from gratification of the senses to deficient in moral, spiritual, or intellectual interests. I'll embrace the former and beg off the latter! With that said, I do aim for the sensual side of my readers. I sought to explore that and came up with the poem “Poetic Passion”. The images in it embody my interpretation of a sensual poem, and my poetic experience I strive to create for my readers.

Poetic Passion
Bonus Poem for Day 100 – 20150101

A gratification
of many senses is my stated goal.
Allow poetry
to blindfold you while the words press in.
Look not to the print,
instead embrace their message of passion.
Feel the verse embrace
you with a world I created just for you.

Take my sharing hand,
lend your life to my verbal wonderland.
It is partnership,
My words, your blessed body, soul, and mind.
I can drive you to
or frantic madness or orgasmic frenzy.
The choice is all yours,
for you are my companion its creation.

Lay back kind reader,
allow my words to envelope you whole,
to caress you there,
as you are consumed with my appetites.
Heighten your senses,
words flow over every part of your being.
My world is open.
You dive into the poetic passion.

A friend bravely shared something going on in their life that I suspect many are feeling. Society gives us mixed messages about sex and sexual relations . Religion says one thing. Peers say another. Media says something else. At the heart of the matter is how YOU feel about it, and sometimes the intimate act of sex means less than the other things in life. Does this mean a person is less than those members of society who are sexual, and through this, are continuing humanity through procreation? That’s the topic the poem “I Wonder If” tries to tackle. There are no easy answers.

I Wonder If
Poem for Day 87 – 20141219

People describe sex
the same way I describe my passions:

Distracting
Consuming
Centering

I may bake a cake
and feel the same as they feel.
I may sing a song
and feel the energy surge through me.
Why am I judged
by the driven sex lives of others?
Are all my passions
the reason I cannot measure up to them?
My friends share with me
the power of intimacy in their lives.
My friends ask of me
if I have sex to the same degree.
I cannot answer
Yes.
I wonder if I
would be more grounded if I fooled around.
I wonder if I
need to put my passions down to feel alive.
I wonder if I
am normal enough for you.

A friend asked for thoughts on non-cis lives. This is a complicated topic because of the interplay between gender identity and sexual preference. These are assumed to have norms. These norms only exist on the largest part of of the bell-curve. Others have a mix of gender and sexual (attraction) identities that defy the expected. There are many combinations, and the people live these do so with lives that have as much integrity and honesty as the “norms”. Sadly society only begrudgingly gives them the respect and a space asked for.

Stand Before You
Poem for Day 041 – 20141103

I stand before you:
body physical.
Contrary to my:
self-identity.
How can I explain
my self existence?
It is who I am,
not society's plan.

I stand before you:
sexual image.
Contrary to my:
personal desires.
I have my own needs.
They are authentic.
Forget what you think.
I seek my passion.

Confuse you I may:
social rejection.
I do not attack:
desire no malice.
Hiding is normal,
my peer group so small.
If you must see me,
please respect my place.

Spirituality and sexuality are intertwined in the human experience. I've indulged in some. I've danced around the others. This blog entry is about a root commonality of seeming incongruent spiritual path: the sexual narrative.

I recently read a blog that started with the paragraph:

Witches (along with many other denominations of Paganism) view sex as sacred. The Charge of the Goddess says that all acts of love and pleasure are rituals of the Goddess, and not only do I believe that to be true, it's one of the things that drew me to this religion. In many ways, we're more open about sex (some of us say that we're more "sex positive") than the members of many/most other religions. Similarly, we're more likely to be quite accepting of QLTBG, etc. sex/sexuality/identity, polyamory, public nudity, and various less-than-mainstream forms of sexual expression than the members of many other religions. Our on-line discussions and our festivals and conferences often reflect this reality.

This got me thinking about expressions of sexuality and the shadow sides of religions. I found the first sentence to be especially interesting. A quick search on Google revealed a tantric oriented article that said:

Why is sex sacred? The dictionary defines sacred as "made or declared holy, dedicated or devoted exclusively to a use, purpose, or person worthy of reverence or respect." The word itself comes from the Latin, sacra meaning "sacred, holy, consecrated," that is, blessed or revered. The noun (singular) is sacrum, meaning a holy thing or place.

Another Google plunge found a Christian oriented page that said:

Sacred sex should be "rooted in a sacrificial dying to yourself in such a way that means laying your will, pride and needs on the altar while considering the other as more important than yourself. ...The two partners share much more than some moments of passion. They share their secrets, their hearts' DNA, their fears, their hopes, their failures and even so much as their 'treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places.'"

The long of the short of it is that pagan's don't have the market cornered on believing sexuality is sacred. There are many spiritual paths that feature their stand on sexuality front and center. The reasoning seems simple enough. People think about sex. Sex is a motivational driver. Any spiritual path worth anything will address the topic, and do so in a way that satisfies those who will embrace the path.

This gets really interesting when you consider the message of each spiritual path, and then consider where it seeks to connect with the follower. We are all wired a little differently, with varying fears, desires and convictions.  Every spiritual path has a narrative that hooks and feeds the adherents. Does your spiritual path have a sexual narrative that you connect with?

This is a long article on an emotional and controversial topic. I’ve got a fair amount of text behind the cut. My apologies if I ramble, but this the first time I’ve closely looked at something that has struck a cord for me.

I consider myself an open-minded guy, especially when it comes to the "consenting adults" side of life. I have my own share of kinky interests and can relate to others doing the same. These liberal views have been challenged during the LJ strikethrough days. Part of the 'cause' of LJ strikethrough days was the very sloppy discontinuation of pedophilia 'supporting' users and communities. Strikethrough is now fading into history. I've been left to wonder about some of the reactions I've seen.

This has not been an easy thing for me to write about. I was surprised that I had such a strong reaction to it. I felt I had to condemn the pursuit of pedophilic erotica and simultaneously support those who are seeking healing. Our children are special. They will be adults soon enough. Many adults, including myself, are seeking that spark of life that childhood represents. The spark is not found through sexual congress. The spark is instead embraced when we identify with purity and joy of children. Only love and protection exist here, and that is why I have written about this topic.

Comments, feedback?

A sharing person asked the following on a LJ group:

I can think of a few potential reasons: that the Pagan community is more welcoming of such interests and/or orientations than general society; that as part of examining one's life and one's self, Pagans are more inclined to examine their sexual/relationship life and be open to alternatives; that some common Pagan practices such as ritual nudity etc already move into the realm of what society may consider deviation from sexual norms, this making further explorations more acceptable to practitioners; correlations with other communities more keen to explore alternative sexualities, such as hippies and geeks (although this still doesn't adequately explain why);or that magic-workers are often interested in power and its relation to the self, and may choose the bedroom as a place to explicitly explore this
